Even more wild is how Hollywood journos/libs worked overtime to champion the film as an important contemporary release, and happily added Olivia Wilde's name to their Mt. Rushmord of 2-3 other recent female directors they list off ad nauseam
Then only like 6 months later those same people were universally scolding her for Richard Jewell and the ridiculously overblown "controversy" concerning her character's treatment. I was glad to see that Wilde stood her ground about it though....at least for like a week before she made the routine public apology to appease entertainment media journos and random Twitter blue checks. I guess a week and a half straight of multiple smear articles a day wasn't something she was prepared to deal with.
They’d do the same thing if Greta decided to play a Lana Del Rey type
I saw it in a sold out theater. One of the last times I’ve heard that much laughing. Before that it was Neighbors/22 Jump Street
Didnt really like 22JS as much as the first one tbh, but it def had its moments
I need to check out The House, and also the Game Night film from a while back with Bateman and...Kristen Bell (i think?)

I agree about 22JS but that and Neighbors came outright after each other and people were falling out their seats almost the whole time. Rarely see that
Game night had that one had the girl from Mean Girls and True Detective S2

Being in Georgia, and so close yo ATL, it was annoying as hell living through those couple weeks during that whole "issue".
The Atlanta Journal Constitution literally could NOT let it go. Which was predictable at first — arguably the most read publication in the state, also where her IRL character was the first in the nation to prematurely and wrongly reported on Jewell's POI status when the bombing happened — but then they just got cartoonish about it.
Im talking about literally 3-5 articles about it published on their site every other day lol. They were basically just the same s*** over and over written by a different person.
And out of the ones I read, none of them mentioned the maddening fact that Jewell successfully sued/settled with every media outlet he brought to court afterwards, including national stations like CNN and NBC, except for AJC. They were the ones who were responsible for airing the first reports that other stations around the country used as a source, ruining his public life — and they're also the only media station that refused to apologize for it and fought him in court.
S*** is really such a tragedy. AJC so trash.

dunno. That film had energy and a few exciting moments. I think that she might be a talented director but this was rather testing the waters. It was extremely clicheed for sure but it was rather well done I'd say. It still managed to feel organic and not a soulless collection of stereotypes.
but yeah, this was liberals the movie.

your description is perfect, it’s a movie that has totally been done before but still manages to retain some sense of originality, and it’s directed well enough for being Wilde’s first film. can’t really hate on that too much
