Wondering if anyone else ITT has come to a similar weird realization in recent years about your memory/experience with Kanye's Graduation.

The zoomer gen's discovery & appreciation of Graduation over the past few years made me realize that I grew up listening to a totally different version than a lot of people, and i honestly dont know or remember why that is.

The version of the album that i had on all my OG iPods growing up was the one with "Bittersweet Poetry" as the final bonus track. I legit dont think i ever listened to "Good Night" until years later.

Up until several years ago, I would have bet one of my kidneys that "Bittersweet Poetry" was a US iTunes exclusive, because I swear I first downloaded the album on iTunes and carried that same AAC file across multiple iPods... I also had the digipak CD of the album but I rarely played it front to back cause I always had my iPod with me instead.

But when i finally looked it up and found out it was a Japan release exclusive track?? How tf did I end up hearing that version of the album first?

I guess I'm willing to accept that my memory might be more cloudy than I realize. Shortly after Grad came out is when i started getting into pirating music and collecting hard drives with hundreds of discogs on them... Maybe I downloaded a rip of the Japanese version without realizing it, and that occured close enough to when I bought it on iTunes that my brain is just conflating the two.

Although i definitely wasn't actively aware that I was listening the Japanese version for so long -- like I said, I spent years believing that song was just a US iTunes exclusive that has been lost to the streaming era like many other iTunes bonus tracks.

But i think about that every now and then and it still makes me feel odd, especially as such a huge Kanye fan lol. Wi first noticed whenever people talked about Graduation and a bonus track that wasn't "Bittersweet Poetry", it threw me for a loop forreal I thought almost everyone grew up listening to the version that I did

I guess it's pure coincidence that around the time when streaming services became standard, that's the same time when i stopped listening to most Kanye albums in full, or even listening to lots of his early era in general cause I had just played it so much over the years and started getting into other things. (Aside from CD, 808s, Yeezus, and VH1 Storytellers -- those albums always found their way into my shuffle lists.) So right around the time I switched from my iPod to streaming, and should have realized that "Good Night" was the normal closing track, I wasn't in the mood to revisit Graduation anymore.

I get the criticisms, but it’s the first Cregger’s movie that’s worked for me.

I’m usually looking for a different sound around Autumn, but this got me back in a Britpop mood. I must have missed this b-side too.
