Not a wasted note
Agree to disagree
People think my favorite debut album of all time is overrated, ostentatious millennial nostalgia bait so it's OK
This is when Win's luddite "society was better when we all played stickball in the street" shtick started to get annoying. He pulled it off later for The Suburbs but after that it was horrible.
It works on Funeral because there's actual storytelling involved; Tunnels has some of the most gorgeous imagery ever written in a rock song. I don't care how much hate the album gets, Funeral is an absolute diamond.
I just think the overall atmosphere is less melodramatic and whiny. Win has always been hit or miss but his working-man storytelling somehow works for me on Neon Bible. That and the arrangements I think are their best. Faster tempos, some cool ass organs, a little darker in places
actually sounds more funereal in spots than Funeral
Ok but "Power Out" is their singular Zenith as a single song. Too incredible to ignore
Fighting over Radiohead

Top 5 debut for me. Spewing venom to those surf vibey riffs. Punk clossic
