Interesting, while i do agree on Speaking on Tongues being a fun addition in their discography i don't necessarily agree about Eno's influence. I feel he lays the perfect basis for Byrne to go off on the deep end (affectionately)
I love Eno, but he’s often better at elevating a band with untapped potential. When a group is already pretty accomplished and interesting on their own, I feel as if he kind of suffocates them. Like sure, he’ll bring out their weirder instincts, but it sometimes sacrifices personality and emotional intimacy. For example, if he produced a Cure record, I feel as if it’d just be a more experimental P***ography, with none of the whimsy, and earnest longing of Robert Smith intact.

I still think Eno did great for those 3 Talking Heads but to your point it was time for them to move on
But as much as I love Eno, 77 and The Name of This Band are my fav TH, both un-Eno'd
Lol i liked it i thought??
Missed that

Im just gonna take this moment to drop my super unpopular take in here since u mentioned the Cure and recently ive been going thru a bunch of their discog again
I don’t really like P***ography, it’s not even in my top 5 most played Cure albums
I know a lot of people absolutely love the album, and i tend to gravitate towards dark stuff but man that album is just so suffocating to the point where i don’t enjoy listening to it. I also had a bad experience with that album on a personal level which i won’t go into but that has always tainted my perception of it as well
