    @RASIE

I hated it lol. Not feeling all the Kingdom Hearts time warpy s***. The whisperers/defying fate stuff was dumb. And Sephiroth was in it way too much. He's like some f***in disney villain popping up every 5 minutes to remind you he's the bad guy.

I get they wanted to end it with a bang to reel new players in for the 2nd part but.. ending was s***, lol. If it ended after the motorcycle chase it would have been perfect

While I don't necessarily have a problem with anything about the end (and the general way it retcons the entire FF7 lore, including CC and AC), I am kinda just "ambivalent", for lack of better word haha.

Like I actually think the direction the ending takes and what's implied are positive changes. The idea of getting another chance to do a better job of stopping Sephiroth for good this time around — instead of what's supposed to happen where he survives in the lifestream and returns in AC — is intriguing. At the same time, it kinda makes me worry for the next installment, both in terms of what things from the OG will be left out, and if they're gonna use this as an opportunity to make the world less open or have less stuff to explore...

As for the watchers/whispers, I didn't really mind them. I mean the developers definitely needed to have something to represent the "fight against fate" if that's the direction they chose, and I think the watchers served that purpose as a nice meta-symbol with all the times they stopped an event that would've changed the original narrative. (And that also provided what was basically tons fan service haha.)

And maybe it's just because I didn't prioritize the main quest at all times and took a little longer to get to the end, but Sephiroth didn't seem to pop up THAT often to me. Only in select major story moments in brief cutscenes (outside of that first encounter where you're forced to walk in super-fucking-slow motion to follow him on after the first chapter). I also feel like him appearing more and earlier than the original might end up being something like "Sephiroth knows what happens in OG and wants to prevent it so he can win" — cause clearly Aerith already knows about the original timeline somehow lol, why not him too?

Idk, I'm "ambivalent" cause none of it really makes me angry/upset, but I'm also not like excited or willing to defend it. I'm just like "okay i want to know what's next now" and that's it lol. Cause really, the next installment of the game is what's going to push me out of ambivalence and will either make me mad or happy depending on how they handle it.

As for this first part tho, it's whatever to me as long as they don't f*** up by taking it to the extreme like KH. And the only part of this ending that makes me worry about that is the Zack living through the battle s***. That's the only thing that really complicates the whole idea for me

Villeneuves films are kinda forgettable. I don't even remember what happened in Arrival. Was there a twist? I think my favorite was Enemy.

Incendies and Prisoners were pretty noice too tho I guess.

However, I will add that I'd probably be happier with just a straight up remake of the OG story with the new graphics and character development. (Oh, and also towns that are actually f***ing explorable and not just filled with "just for show" buildings/houses.)

I find the whole fate thing entirely unnecessary as that's not what the original was about. If anything, it was all about these people CHOOSING to step up rather than being destined to do it. Aeris chose to sacrifice herself, Cloud chose to go after Sephiroth, Barret chose to make a stand against Shinra etc.#

Same with the alternate timeline stuff. The original was fairly grounded (for an FF game at least). Death and consequences was a big part of it. Now they're messing around with dead characters surviving in different timelines and s*** (Zack at the end.. which of course makes room for Aeris). I replayed it over the winter so all this s*** is still pretty fresh in my head.

!#It's not a game killer for me and I'll definitely play the next one but it's just like "...why?" The story was fine as it is.

I think what they're going for isn't a betrayal or criticism of the OG, and more so saying "despite what originally happened, sephiroth wasn't actually defeated after the events of the original game", and by changing Aerith's character as someone who already knows this (probably through communicating with the lifestream and being shown the future or something), she wants to make sure sephiroth is beaten for sure this time which will prevent a lot of tragic stuff that happened after her death.

What's wild, and I'm just now realizing this, is that idea is extremely similar to what happens in DQ11's story lol. Don't wanna spoil it for you or anything but yeah... Although DQ11's is more cleanly done and feels way more satisfying haha

We'll see how it all comes together I guess. I'm not against some changes like that but it did feel sloppy to me. F***ing Kingdom Hearts guy.

I'll probably jump to DQ after I'm done with FF7.

    barely
completely falls apart in the end

I used to think that but i think its still a pretty good ending that ties the entire story together. That scene with gosling and the billboard Ana hologram is one of my fav sci fi scenes of the 2010s.

Not as strong as OG ending though
