    I mean they didnt teach us about the residential school s*** either. Canada better at facing that down now though I guess.

    Same with us and the empire even though it's probably the single biggest factor that's shaped how our country is today. I think we have less of an enforced reason than the Germans and Japanese to learn about our many atrocities because we're still sort of living in the ruins of the empire lol

    I saw a video of young Japanese people on the streets being asked about WW2 and it was clear most of them had just a vague idea of what their country actually did. They kind of just.. swept that period of time under the rug.

    In some ways it is better to sweep it under the rug. The history is there but to harp on it for generations so far removed from that period and into the future seems counterproductive. I can’t think of a country that doesn’t have an atrocity linked to its past

    eh don’t think so and it’s not very a clear cut of them ignoring it a japanese new wave movies in the 60s often did deal with the guilt of japanese society
