Couple things you gotta see are;
1. The World At War, epic early 70s BBC documentary that has 24, one hour long episodes that go through all the important situations leading up to the war and crucial conflicts during. Amazing cause it has (seemingly) unbiased interviews with people from all sides and walks of life during the war. Japanese politicians, Russian peasants, American sailors, famous British commanders, literal Nazi generals after they served their time in prison
the fact that they don't edit out a Nazi calling the Holocaust a hoax tells me it's pretty unbiased. Doesnt tell the hogwash version where America won the war and saved the world. Incredibly tasteful narration from Laurence Olivier. 2. A couple docs from Brit Adam Curtis which help explain why America (Hypernormalisation) and why Russia (Traumazone). Juxtaposing accidently comically absurd moments with horrifyingly dark historical turns while playing some of the most incredible deep cuts
really capture a unique and ridiculous vibe. Almost like the creators of Napoleon Dynamite were there to knowingly observe the collapse of the Soviet Union and American Empire. - Dec 30, 2023

idk I just read Wolf Of The Plains, an incredible series on Genghis and the Mongolians that I couldn't put down. 800 years ago but they cut a swath from China to nearly Africa and were totally poised to conquer Europe if Ghengis' son (who was now Khan) didnt suddenly die, meaning Tsubodai (arguably greatest tactician that ever lived) had to turn his horde around and head back to Mongolia to pick a new Khan. they were about 100 km from Venice and wouldn't have stopped till they got to the Atlantic. one of the most pivotal single deaths in all history.
