That appeals to me way more with Bioshock.

I couldn't finish Bioshock, game did not age well at all. The story was interesting though even though I knew the twist beforehand

I don't think I'm particularly bad at games either, even though I don't play that much anymore. HK is 'notoriously' difficult and I got pretty quickly acclimated to it

Yeah on paper it sounds awesome but the vibe/characters were just

I can see how the oldies music thing is appealing though

Fallout's amazing because each vault and building and cave that you come across kind of has its own little story if you look closely and read computer terminals and notes or just read the environment around the building. Theyre always self contained and can involve anything from aliens to interdimensional shifting to jealous lovers to
competitive raiders talking s***. There's often really good loot hidden that you'll only find if you look closely for clues.

And the gameplay loop of starting in a little shack with a mattress and slowly exploring out and collecting stuff to craft with, go back to on your base and tune up your armor and weapons, go out exploring again until you're in the verge of death, haul ass back to the base and do it again :just so: so satisfying in both Elder Scrolls and Fallout that it put Bethesda right behind Nintendo is my 2nd favorite developer.

Also I've never really explore another world that felt so alive as far as they're being a vibrant world full of life with a bunch of different factions and monsters doing battle even when you're not around. Makes it feel like it's exists when you're not there. You never know what kind of random chance encounter you going to come across.

Only Skyrim back in the day which was cool

If you like that type of exploration then just slap it on a Mad Max setting

Yeah see descriptions like that make it sound amazing then I play it and it never clicks

I gave it a chance too, I have like 20 hours in New Vegas. Tapped out about 5 hours in with 4.

Bioshock was cool but a little too frantic. Sometimes when you're playing Fallout it feels like a western and you can take it real easy :datass:

You should try Fallout 4 tbh. It got cooked for simplifying its RPG elements but as far as immersion and gunplay goes it's super visceral. And it has a big ass DLC called Far Harbor which is a spooky atmospheric masterpiece.

for some reason I had trouble keeping a full stock of health and powers at a certain point maybe i got lost r hit a brick wall but i wasn't having much trouble before that. I think I've just gotten worse at any type of 3D shooter at this point but have gotten better at 2d s***. idk

Another important thing is I always play on Survival Mode so the enemies are way way harder and you have to eat and sleep and stuff. It makes surviving the nuclear wasteland much more realistic and you have to really take advantage of everything in the game and all the outposts and crafting and everything. Amazing.

Fallout looks hell fun but also a massive time investment. unfortunate pass

Yeah exactly that partly why I like Subnautica so much and grounded. I'm a fiend for those games.

I can get pretty good at tight platforming woth enough practice in a 2D setting. I never attempted the Hall of Gods though. I'm not great with combat but HK's mix of dodging and maneuvering in combat gave me a better chance at each fight.
Based on my own personal description maybe I shoudl give Meatboy a chance and stay tf away from Cuphead

  • I wish the second Ori wasn't so hellbent on trying to be combat-oriented. The simple fights but great movement made me love the original so much. Second one still had amazing movement and puzzles but the combat wheel was super unintuitive and clunky to work around. shame. could never finish it.

Exploring is so fun I wish it was longer, had a bigger map

The developer didn't manage to translate any of the magic of the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games to Starfield biggest letdown of my gaming life

Celeste was also fun as hell. For some reason I got to the very last level and never finished it. Must've taken a break one day and that was the last of that specific gaming itch

And you always tell me I'd like Souls games cause I like HK but I highly disagree. Souls being 3D is already a more difficult experience and it's almost entirely based around the difficulty of the enemies and bosses. HK is way more manageable in a 2D setting, and just happens to be more difficult than the average game. Also, platforming and movement

It's about the process of learning enemy attack patterns/timings. That's a very simplistic description but HK bosses are just very... Soulsy in the way they're designed. It really is just Dark Souls in 2D and in the best way. The combat is so smooth.

Btw I think we disagreed on which was better between Odyssey and BotW. I still probably lean BotW because of play time and immersion (I'm trying to not let my TotK opinion change my BotW one), but I think looking back, I got a higher enjoyment level that happened over a shorter amount of time in Odyssey. Thinking about my first Odyssey playthrough always has me like just so much content packed so tightly

Sorry but Souls combat does not look smooth at all and just the fact that it's 2D vs 3D is already a huge difference.

Yeah I'm probably putting TOTK closer to Odyssey. BOTW never quite had enough depth or surprises for me. It's was beautiful and painterly but badly needed the all the stuff that TOTK brought to the table.
