Yeah almost every track from MMLP is killer. Em was at the top of his game concerning flows, creative rhyme schemes and had great beats to back him up. Biggest fall back is the features (except for B**** Please II) being extremely medicre (especially those by his D12 groupmates).

He lost his delivery and sense of self. He’s just a totally different person now. It’s not about the subject matter or anything, but the way he executes the lines. There was a bite to his voice back in the day and a perfect smoothness to how he went over the fitting production. I think of that track Girls from the D12 record Devils Night and just the way his multi tracked vocals gave off this mean sinister quality that’s completely faded in the years since.

I won't argue at all. Just noit something I ever wanna throw on unless I'm already immersed in a full MMLP listen. In that context, then it probably is his best

I totally agree. I never want to listen to in isolation, but every like 5 or so years when I revisit the whole album—it always still sticks out to me as such a striking rap song. Another song that elicits a similar feeling for me despite being totally different is Wayne’s I Feel Like Dying. Nothing sounds like either of them really.

First couple lines perfectly described Ye no matter how much he tries to convince he's the same dude, here's obviously way far gone. Big difference between Ye and Em is I think Ye has that magic touch where even if he's 'washed', there will be something great to pick up along the way

It's crazy to me that any of you haven't heard this album and are still surprised how good he was in the early days. Had the game in a chokehold and unanimous respect for several years.

I think if Kanye gets out of the headspace he’s in currently—he could maybe pull out that magic again. There’s plenty of moments on Donda for sure. Em just completely lost touch with whatever he had once. Revival is a dreadful album, but I remember thinking the last couple tracks elicited a bit of what he used to be able to do—only to realize they were written in 2007 lol.

I'm not surprised. I've heard mostly all of his early songs and worshipped him when I was 12. Just never listened to an album front to back. That's not how I digested music as a kid. If you read my whole post you'd see that I said I heard every song on the track list

I think there a couple handful of DONDA songs that captured the magic. Actually, I think, in general, he found a magical creative head space for everything around DONDA but he clearly said yes to pretty much every idea and collaboration and the album suffered from quality control. Cut the album in half and it's battling in the middle of his Tier 2 classics

Marshall Mathers LP was deadass like Thriller or something of that era. Literally everybody and their sister and their mother owned a copy. It's surprising.

Thinking about it now I was probably closer to 12. Didn't really start listening to albums in full until I was like 16. Why is that so surprising lol? All I really knew about listening to music was Youtube and buying the occasional song on Itunes with my 5 dollar monthly allowance. Lose Yourself was one of the first rap songs I ever heard when I was 7 or 8 in an Ipod commercial, and I remember being so blown away by it I asked to borrow my dads credit card to buy it on iTunes which I had never done before. It was like a revelation. That was the song that got me to even like rap music.

Remember when I was 12 you were probably 20. What do you expect from a dumb 12yo?

Late Registration was the first album I ever owned, and I think followed by Black on Both Sides by Mos Def, surprisingly. Could probably rap the entirety of Late Registration when I was 15 front to back
