not as much (rubber soul and revolver were also significantly increased steps). the albums didnt supercede the cultural impact of the singles in the same way until Sgt Pepper methinks. even with Dylan's contribution to albums that we were just talking about, Like a Rolling Stone as a single still superceded them. I don't have much to base this off but I imagine the average person back in 1967 perceived of Sgt Peppers a lot differently than they thought of even Revolver and Rubber Soul

the packaging too with the cover and lyrics. bigger statement going forward as to what medium would dominate. money and marketing ties into it too i think with labels seeing the future as album-based and obviously putting more of the focus on that starting as soon as Sgt Pepper was released

true but I also feel like people go too far to separate jazz from popular music acting like it was in an entirely different universe like classical was. even leaving aside the obvious connections like influence from jazz on contemporary musicians, all the hard bop generation jazz musicians playing on R&B albums/circuits, zeitgeist popularity of jazz a few decades earlier, artists blending jazz with other stuff, etc. I think the audience is a big factor and jazz audience wasn't totally pushed aside in favor of R&B/pop until later. and even that was a gradual shift, i dont think it suddenly happened once the early 70s hit

yeah I agree it applies to Dylan too to a significant extent and not just in the lyrical approach which was obviously the key part
