not really, it’s basically an alternate ending to the series and rewrites the last few episodes. the OG series is cool and definitely has a unique vibe that captures isolation/alienation and loneliness super well, but it’s never been one of my favorites. the End of EVA movie is a step up from the series in that it takes the themes of the series and turns em to 10.

honestly the Rebuild of EVA movies (Evangelion 1.0 through Evangelion 3.0+1.0) are wonderful as well, and iirc the first two are basically the majority of the original series but with updated animation and some alternate timeline shenanigans, so maybe you could get away with watching them and then skipping to End of EVA. After that, def finish the Rebuild movies cuz the completely new direction they took the plot is awesome.
