Today in NYC I walked past a homeless woman lying in the cold rain, no blanket or jacket, and like 5 feet away from her was this tall park avenue building with 10 million dollar condos and a 15 million dollar lobby with gold-linings and paintings. That juxtaposition was frightening. How do you make sense of something like that?

I’ve known a lot of homeless people (including family members) and the one thing they have in common are the s*** choices they’ve made in life. All that stuff especially with addiction catches up and some get hit harder than others.

As for the Park Ave apartments, I can never fault someone who worked harder than me and became successful. Congrats to them.

I hear what you're saying. But what if this person has schizophrenia or some type of psychotic disorder? What does that have to do with bad choices? Maybe they were dealt a s*** hand and we have no idea. Or have no family to help them. And now they're living in this nightmare surrounded by gold plated sky skyscrapers.

I have a cousin with a mental disorder who has been to the psych ward over 250 times, not a joke. Luckily she has a middle class family who cares. This young woman probably doesn't.

Not faulting anyone for their success, of course, I'm no socialist. and a lot of homeless people choose to be homeless, but some don't, and their mental disorder is what put them there in that situation in the first place. There's gotta be some empathy for people like that woman in the cold. Even In the form of social securities. It was just a surreal thing to witness.

Working hard can only get you so much success and if you really believe that hard work is the only reason some people are living in $10million flats in big cities and others are on the streets then I have a few bridges to sell ya.

Like VB says I'm not a socialist but that level of inequality just ain't right no matter how you look at it

I hear what you’re saying too broski, and I didn’t literally mean “everyone” out there. It sucks to see people who’ve fallen through the cracks.

Yea some people are lucky to have family who pass down wealth and business. Inheritance plays a role. And some work p hard to get there too.

As someone who has none of that and is at best “lower middle class” I’ve never seen someone else’s wealth as a fault

There are also alot of people who got prescriptions from sketchy doctors which turned them into an opioid crisis statistic.

In this case I feel like that lady probably could've been hiding out in a shelter or something but knew posting up out front of the gilded towers is where you really catch the rich folk with a hot dose of guilt and get a good donation.

I walk by homeless crazies on a literal daily basis so I’m kind of numb to it at this point, but I do sympathize with the ones that are there because of unchecked mental illness. The city does an absolute trash job at getting these people help.

living in nyc you get sick of homelss guys fast i basically hate them and avoid them and dont look at them

but the richest country in the world shouldnt have this problem. there is so much food and shelter available. Universal healthcare, more psych wards, welfare would solve this problem quickly.

i also dont care if they sleep on the stree tor the subway because what else are they going to do. its a small price to pay for having the highest QOL in the history of mankind.

and yes it is a bummer and surreal that this happens
