I swear there are flashes of the generation defining album everyone says it is but it’s infrequent

Oh yeah, Momma is one of those instant serotonin rush tracks for me, beat is pure bliss from the second it starts

I am one of those people who considers it a generation defining album, hopefully one day it clicks for you all the way through

Thread has a hate boner for TPAB

I don't think it's the #1 album of all time like RYM does, or even the #1 rap album of that decade

But it's probably in my all time top 50

I'd be hard to be convinced of a higher grade than 7/10 at its very best but it has its moments for sure.

I like SRS but it really needs to be for a certain mood. Earl's lane in 2013-15 will always be my fav (since it seems like Earl is sticking in the SRS lane)

I like SRS as well. I just don’t think it’s the masterpiece it’s biggest supporters make it out to be or the high point of Earl’s output. I think the atmosphere on those first couple albums is unmatched. Nothing else really sounds or “feels” like them. It’s like being trapped in some murky dark void. Also his flow and delivery was just so flawless around then.

Yea I think the acclaim TPAB continues to get is definitely warranted and will be a generational album when its all said and done. Maybe over ambitious in concept but the artistry is there. I don't always feel like sitting down with it but when that mood hits

TPAB is definitely one of the all time great rap albums but it’s definitely quite interesting how the consensus gradually shifted from MBDTF being seen as the rap album of the 2010s to that one

I’m still listening to this album too. The legend deserves her flowers.

George Floyd certainly accelerated that

I remember a pretty popular discourse at that time around the album was Kendrick playing to neoliberal favor and promoting a savior complex on the album ( something that clearly influenced how he approached these topics on later albums as well). I feel if anything, the George Floyd situation highlighted that more than anything because going back to the album, it honestly felt like a pretty personal record to me and I think a big part of that got lost on people.

It's SRS over everything but the only way Doris isn't #2 is if IDLSIDGO had Solace tacked onto the end

I'm still going with MBDTF but both are undeniable classics

The best on TPAB is mediocre compared to Runaway, So Appalled and Lost in the World
