I gotta rewatch The Gambler soon
The grit, the tension, the ending, American artsy sensibility, and Caan in overdrive..
Feels like de 70's
I must be crazy or something cause almost everybody else itt has given Thief a 4-5 star on LB. The heisting and action was cool af but I didn't find myself giving a s*** about a single character. And the love interest subplot... good Lord
The procedural detail
Caan in bad b****** mode
The crushed dreams
This scene

I liked it alot better on rewatch tbh
Try The Driver from '78 next

You're crazy it's a classic. The transition from cracking the safe into the beach scene while tangerine dream plays is some of the finest film making I've ever seen
And the ending is incredible

What’s your ranking? I forgot Mann did Mannhunter so Thief might not actually be in my top 3

I caught it on TCM a few months back. Not a top tier 70s flick, but it was pretty good. Peter Boyle is always :datass:
