Was the same thing with Seven Samurai for me. Watched them both for years on dvd waiting for it to click then finally got whalloped by both once I saw them in 4k.

It feels massive for its time I will admit. I def need to see more from the era

The “true” Technicolor movies were made up until 1955. The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Red Shoes, and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon are some of the most gorgeous.

A lot of the major "masterpiece" movies have been letdowns for me. There's just too much hype behind them so it's kind of inevitable I guess.

Seven Samurai also one of the supreme masterpieces of the canon. Personally High & Low might be my favorite but I need to watch Samurai again. Haven't seen it in like 8 years.

Yea its been a few years for me too, crazy how when you watch Sopranos and The Wire and notice how many people died from these shows so early
