I like WKW but In the Mood for Love for all it's style was the biggest case of cinematic blue balls I've ever had. Maybe that was the point but I don't care, they should've f***ed.

I get that. I mean, it's the whole point of the movie. It's a lot of watching and waiting for things that the two main characters believe shouldn't happen. These two people are so f***ed up by what their spouses did to them that they ultimately inhabit those people to work through that trauma with each other. But they never f*** because that would be a step too far. It's really interesting to me.

But even if the narrative had zero depth, and it has plenty, every single shot of that film would make for a great poster. It's a masterclass.

I loved that 2046 was such a direct response to that criticism. It's got like 20 straight minutes of f***ing and ultimately comes back around to the conclusion that none of it matters unless you're f***ing the right person (don't loan your love to people who don't deserve it).

Unfortunately, that means dude is gonna be a lonely mf forever because he sees his past as a once in a lifetime opportunity. He thinks he should have f***ed her too I guess.

Bai Ling's whole arc is one of my favorite things in a WKW movie. Heartbreaking s***.

I'm on a Wong Kar Wai kick right now and finally got around to watching 2046. Great movie and I don't feel like people talk about it enough as a brilliant summation of his best works.

But tbh I mostly liked it because it's 2 hours of people writing, yearning, drinking, f***ing and regretting, which means it's my kind of movie. I'm going through a really painful, sad and hopeless unrequited love thing with a lady friend right now and the subject matter really hit. Good to know that there's always a movie out there for whatever I'm feeling lol
