Who does?
Def seen it on major music outlets like Apple Music /Spotify or just online in general
BET calls Summer Walker, Jazmine Sullivan, SiR, etc as r&b/soul artists too

They call it that because it encompasses the different eras. That way they can sell Jodeci and Sam Cooke in the same genre
Bet says R&B/pop
Idk where you’re looking

Well they also call it that because those artists sounds were derived from soul music similar to how Skrillexs sound was derived from what Brian Eno and Aphex Twin did
And I saw this article bet.com/article/yeay4x/5-indie-rbsoul-singers-keeping-the-genre-alive

It’s like how “metal” refers to a certain period of metal bands and everything after that period has a sub genre attached to it. That’s what soul music is like

If you also were to look at Wikipedia, artists like Little Richard and Otis were considered r&b as well

Sub genres of metal is still metal music
To say it’s not is to disregard how a genre has evolved and grown
Have you guys noticed how most of the people from Yesterday's Papers are super dismissive of R&B
other than real ass Steve Marriot almost all of them are literally like "oh, Motown they do the same old thing it's boring now" or "Otis Redding this is terrible he's just yelling"
Jethro Tull singer is obsessed with Family but also weirdly dismissive @RVI @HeyFella
!https://youtu.be/ZV7UMOwtlhoI haven't watched enough of them to notice but i cant say im that surprised with how much the styles were moving apart
Ian anderson is basically one of the least funky people ever too
It is very annoying how the r&b label can mean multiple things and either something pretty specific or ridiculously broad
I don't like using it for the latter and if im talking about the oldest form in the 40s/50s ill say "rhythm and blues"

I think that goes with every genre tbh. Label overload can get confusing.
The impact of soul music is way larger than what reggae or rap has done. And as impactful as Jazz is, there’s just so much more variety in the r&b genre
I'm with you. Alot of that Jamaican music was an offshoot of American r&b as well.
Soul music is blues and gospel cleaned up for the pop charts. Speak all the facts, my guy.
Cleaned up
not what Ray was doing
Bro is putting rock n roll, doo wop, soul, funk, disco, quiet storm, and new Jack swing all in the same genre
No he's not
No one has ever said anything after The ‘70s was “soul” music
Cee-Lo had a soul album
he just needed to let off some steam

Was looking forward to getting into JT but he sounds like a putz
Ray did more than soul though
for sure but im positive the gospel fans did the opposite of think he cleaned up the genre when he was blowing up
