I guess but Radiohead is still kinda lame. I attribute that mostly to Thom Yorke's vocals.

His vocals are one of the best things about them.

He sounds like a dying dweeb and it's why my favorite album of theirs is Kid A cause it's the one where he's distorted the most or shuts the f*** up

I don’t get this at all. I get he embraces his higher register a lot and yeah sure he can get into a quiet droning almost insecure style too sometimes but to me it’s great because it can go from warm and inviting to like cold and clinical. On Fake Plastic Trees he sounds like an angel and on Like Spinning Plates he sounds like he’s possessed by a demon.

An angel? Bro the #1 complaint about Radiohead is Thom Yorke's voice. I get that he appeals to you and I respect that but a lot of people don't f*** with it. Which is fine, I listen to a f***ing ton of bands with vocals people hate, but at least be real about it.

I think you’re actually dead wrong about the general perception of him. Thom Yorke is frequently praised as one of the best modern vocalists. People were comparing him to Jeff Buckley at one point. Like I think you’re either wildly misinformed or delusional. Their most popular songs wouldn’t be sad ballads if his voice was considered weak.

I was talking more the popular perception, like general appeal. Obviously indieheads and s*** like Thom's voice.

As for Jeff he was basically the male Mariah Carey and just over-pronounced and elongated every word. It was annoying. Same with the Muse guy. Holy s*** is he annoying.

    I also hate Maynard

I feel like vocals are the most subjective thing musically. It makes or breaks a band for me. I still stand by the Thom Yorke thing though. Most people will not f*** with his style and that isn't even an insult. Most people wouldn't f*** with this either

I’ve showed Radiohead songs to random friends to family to my 80 year old grandmother and they’ve all said “what a beautiful voice”.

For the record I think Thom's voice is fine for the music his band makes. I was just referring to your global/stands the test of time/influence/whatever claim.

Gotcha but I think you’re wrong about that. I think his voice is generally considered good.

Idk they both seemed cool to me. If I saw a NIN music video instead of Radiohead when I first layed eyes on MTV when I was ten we might be having a different conversation.

    I'm just being petty

My first experience with MTV was s*** like this

NIN videos are just edgy s*** tbh which is fine but not really what I gravitate to

I love Elliott Smith and think he has of the most powerful voices ever. Softness isn't the issue.
