Yeah Yarbirds unparalleled for me. Not just cause of Beck but Samwell-Smith and his gift for arrangements. Rod probably beat Relf for the vocal but the original has a frantic energy that cant be matched, especially during the buzzsaw guitar segment.
I'm just burned out on the original. Tbh I'd even take the Bowie pin-ups cover of Shapes over the OG version too.
This ain't gunna be a problem for me this time cause I haven't heard a new 60s album in years
F*** de ‘60s

ok
too far
i dont know how you possibly burned yourself out so hard on the original but i straight up pretend that Bowie covers albums doesnt exist because every track is dramatically worse than the original. bowie was on fire that year too dont know he f***ed it up so bad.

as much as I like songs such as Life On Mars?, Quicksand, Aladdin Sane, Suffragette City etc. he really developed as a vocalist from Station To Station onwards. His voice fit his older material but guy improved dramatically then.
The best version was the SNL one way after he wrote it. The cone pant ensemble really pulls it together.

First really good Bowie cover is Wild Is The Wind imo.
even though I have a soft spot for Let's Spend The Night Together.

Seems like he made a shift toward utilizing his voice more as another instrument in the abstract soundscapes that didn't always necessarily have to be present, singing actual words or even an actual language as long as it was creative and fit

I can’t believe I managed to get three Bee Gees albums in there. Just listened to all of those too much not to include.
