Wii was the one console I had between my PS1 stuff and the CoD days so I don't think I had that mindset. I think, just because literally all my friends were playing it, I wanted to play too, so I eventually did.

AoE was great too but probably put 1/100th of the hours into it

By the time GTA III and Halo came out I was definitely getting clownee by my nerd ass jock bros for staying true to Nintendo but I didnt care cause if that's my team they were winning the superbowl when we were babies up to BOTW
