I’m so mixed on that band. I think they have an excellent ear for melody but I think the execution is often obnoxious. Even though I’m no fan of a band like Twenty One Pilots I actually really like and prefer their almost dream pop style cover of the song Cancer. The original version is fine but just doesn’t connect with me fully. I’m sure if I had nostalgia for it like so many people I’d think differently.

Like the title track for Black Parade starts off with this beautiful little piano melody, it’s basically the recurring song from Hausu and Garnett’s song from Final Fantasy 9 and then it just descends into over the top Queen influenced operatic rock with the worst characteristics of pop punk layered on top.

Im not big on any of their other records, but black parade hits this sweet spot for me...i think the heavy queen influence they mixed in is genius...it gives the record such gravitas and weight...me and my friend call the title track our generations bo-rap (not 100% serious obv but it is great). I love prog too so albums with prog vibes just do it for me. Im not a fan of the sellout emo era in general but this is THE record from that moment that stands up still to me (jimmy eat world and brand new too for sure)

No disrespect but that cover is one of the most egregious things I've ever heard. Took a beautiful song and b******ized it with gimmicky production.
