He was extremely inept and plagued the german war effort with his constant blunders. At one point the british even drew up a pretty solid plan to assassinate him, but decided not to act on it because they thought whoever replaced him would probably wind up doing a better job and costing them more lives in the long run.

My bad if I'm wrong but just two days ago I looked up whether any of the high command actually ever killed anybody and it doesn't seem like many of them did. The one time Himmler actually visited a concentration camp he got sick and was puking and never left the car again when he visited. Always tried to stay upwind. The OG freikorps dudes however

That I've read. Apparently it was his idea to use gas chambers instead of firing squads because a lot of the soldiers were kinda losing their minds with all the killing.

They referred to Jews and the other prisoners as "units" in their documents. Dehumanize as much as possible.
There's also stories of Hitler pulling the shades down in his car when he was driven past bombed out areas. Also no records of him visiting any of the camps afaik.
