They just made it because Pet Sounds was taking forever and they needed something for the Christmas market. had already done a Christmas album the previous year and a live album.

More on the Baroque side but there’s definitely some psych stuff on there. The lead singer at the time was hyping up The Zombies and The Bee Gees as the artist he was most trying to compete with.
