You guys seem to think that something needs to be innovative or complex for it to be good. Sometimes a simple straightforward song can be better than a 20 minute barrage of noise.

I get where you're coming from, it's the Beatles and everything they did is catchy and sounds good because of George Martin... but you can also criticize a song that just repeats the chorus over and over at being a little lazy and like I said didn't even have the energy of the same type of ditties they were doing a year later

How would you rank that song against Silly Love Songs?

    It's thousands of times better

No need to throw strays at Sister Ray for no reason

Wasn’t what I was referring to. That being said I prefer the long closer on the debut over that.

MMT in my top 3-5 Beatles projects so it’s not like I hate that song either

I never said it was his best. I said one of his best. Meaning it’s a favorite of mine. I like listening to it. It’s nice.

You did say that and listen to you move the goal posts it's fine the song is nice

European Son some throbbing zenith. Even Sonic Youth couldn’t cover it right

Not more doo woppy than their usual fare. Just one of the standard Paul music hall type songs above all

not mad at that. Its pacing and ferocity is really great. Sister Ray is just a behemoth though (being unquestionable a top 5 song ever for me, European Son is an all timer too)

It’s the mood and atmosphere of the song that works. It’s not just repetitions. It’s the way the harmonies overlap. It has a weird ghostly quality to it. Like you’re hearing something from the past intruding on the present. I can’t quite explain it.

I don't like saying things are bad because I'm assuming the musicians were lazy when they conceived it :tash:

I didn’t do that and I didn’t move the goal post. You guys can’t even discuss music without getting “debate me bro” technical about everything.

It conjures the old jubilant Britain of Powell and Pressbuger films I get it feel it in my Liverpudlian roots

One of Paul’s best Beatles songs is Your Mother Should Know. Total bop.

Undeniably a case of production covering for a lack of songcraft didn't say bad
