im assuming by "unadventurous" you mean compared to stuff youve heard that came after?

Does everything need a comparison? I suppose me not being a 60s geek makes my view on a 1966 album null?

No, not compared to stuff that came after. I just don't find the album to be very interesting and I'll need to re-listen to stuff before it to maintain my "better with each album until Abbey Road" viewpoint

if you post potentially controversial statements/opinions i will press you on it and challenge because its fun

im not really talking about your opinion, i dont care that you dont like it much but saying its unadventurous is a false statement and not one of opinion. not really possible for one of the most important
pioneering rock/pop albums to not be adventurous. definitely possible for someone to think its boring af tho. innovative recording and production techniques, early psychedelia, nearly unprecedented variety, and significant development in what the art form of an album would become the way it comes together as a whole

also agree on the production, i dont mind it much but its definitely the worst sounding of their goat albums for me. hopefully a remix one day but i remember reading there might be some technological setbacks to do that for Revolver

a reminder to listen to the mid ass pre-Abbey Road album Let It be to shatter that viewpoint lol

Well idk how else to describe 'dry'. Just feels lacking maybe? I wasnt trying to post it as fact and I'm not denying its impact/innovative features. But I'm not really a Beatles guy so maybe I'm extra harsh. I do still like the psych tinged stuff on there

I know what you mean. There a certain unassuming clarity and razor sharpness it takes a while to appreciate. Album didn't really attain it's status until the '87 reissue came out.

Only Good Day Sunshine is truly naff on there

Revolver is still my fav Beatles album but compared to some of their later work I get Galaxy’s point. I disagree with him but I get it. It’s certainly more “straightforward” than the 3 albums that followed.

That’s just a nice little throwback to their early stuff, it’s fun.

Revolver like Rubber Soul minus the warmth and plus a little psych. George Harrison said he could hardly tell the difference between them.

rubber soul is the first big step through the door and revolver is the natural expansion

or, weed album vs weed+LSD album

doesnt sound great either but still way better than stereo which is bad except for Tomorrow Never Knows and maybe one or two others

i wonder if you would feel differently if it had the perfect production level of Abbey Road tbh
