Ozzy also a lot more eloquent since he kicked the pills he was on when he was making that show. When I saw a Sabbath his stage banter was actually pretty funny and audible even to me who need subtitles through all life.

LuJoI hadn't read it before thanks for linking lawdie. Doesn't surprise me that Violator in particular influenced that many people but their discog as a whole really does seem to go hand in hand with it. Their synths are as good as it gets
Yeah their particular sound in that era was a great link between post-punk's underlying synthpop energy and metal's heavier tones. The only other group that comes to mind from that time that matches that is Ministry, who were also a favorite of Metal artists then too

Very Basedthis might not 100% be your style but I really like A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood. Just one of my favorite books.
Also This Boy's Life, a Memoir by Tobias Wolff (Tobias Wolff taught with Raymond Carver at my alma mater. They were friends and their writing style may influence each other a bit.). Also check out his short stories, especially this one:

The former is a Joycean Ulysses-style German novel, blending fiction and nonfiction, dreams & reality. Really bizarre but a kind of transcendent novel.
The latter is a book I was required to read by Werner Herzog when I was going to his film school in Munich (though I ended up not going for financial reasons)... It's just about the greatest English prose ever put to paper.
Also have you ever heard of On The Beach by Nevil Shute? I've never read it but I want to and it sounds like something you might like.

Let the personal connections flow
f*** your attempt at an objective list that's boring afI don’t believe in objectivity with this stuff but an album like Sunflower has a few duds so it’s weird putting it above plenty of other more consistent records on my list. Ram is great too but there’s more effective focused albums that could be higher than it. Both though just have these moments that are so special to me and are really ahead of their time. You can hear so much different modern indie bands and sub genres directly spawn from material coming from both. All I Wanna Do and Dear Boy respectively are like looking into the future. So good.
