In 2017, the masterpieces Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey were released. Hollow Knight was released the same year and I think it's probably better or at the very least on par with BOTW

I would say it's on the same level as BotW. Very different games though, despite both being big on exploration. BotW is a very zen experience while Hollow Knight is constant adrenaline and death at every turn.

Hoping they go crazy/weird as hell with BotW 2, they’re basically in the same spot they were in with Ocarina.

still waiting on a ocarina/majora remaster that isnt handheld only though

really excited for it. Especially storywise. Really loved the approach in BOTW but I want some more background info tbh.

I think Odyssey is the game of the generation. Even BOTW got stale in comparison to the relentless creativity of Mario. Dunkey knows.

They seriously need up the amount of unique encounters and enemy variety in the wake of Elden Ring

yup. I'd say that was the game's biggest flaw (imo a relatively minor one tho.)

Idk I think the game ran out of variety when I was about a third of the way through exploring the map never ran out of surprises with the elemental experimentation combat system though

    Odyssey however has you constantly

Skyrim did a way better job of having random encounters and unpredictable moments that surprised you tbh

Buying every map you can and using a wayward compass (super early charm) is ideal if you get lost. Since I played it up to a certain point before I traced my steps up from there and kinda pieced it all together. The farther you get, the easier it is to understand the objective and how to get everywhere

I planned on trying it again but after finally assimilating Elden Ring I'm probably just going to play all fromsoft games in reverse chronological order

I'd argue that it's a bit too much there tbh. I love the radical and sometimes boring vastness of BOTW here. Then again, I wouldn't say it's a bigger flaw in Skyrim than in BOTW to me.

Just knowing that 80% of the time you're going out of the way to find a secret it's just going to be another f***ing korok seed seriously not rewarding

Yeah it's hard to compare... but then again that first BOTW run was so good. Think the challenge of HK is a fun new experience for me

that makes finding really useful stuff actually more rewarding. Like it's a bit closer to actual real life where lots of mundane s*** happens. However, I'd agree that there were too many.

That is certainly a "glass half full" way of looking at it I got a Triforce tattoo and even I was at the f***in korok seeds

Also it was really frustrating as an ocd explorer on my first playthrough that the korok seeds were the only way to tell where you had been on the map the heroes path was a later DLC

yeah I'd put BOTW #1 in my Zelda ranking so I guess we'd disagree here. Then again, I'm not a 100% guy. Perhaps that feeds into it. Like, I also liked the blue coins in Sunshine but never really completed them when I thought that I had enough with it and just did it casually when I wanted to. Was really surprised when I found out that people hated them.

I don't know if there's anything that can match the flawlessness of Ocarina/Majora it's probably the nostalgia talking but every aspect was so Wind Waker almost there too
