Nazis in Ukrainian leadership is crazy talk?

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-cohen-ukraine-commentary/commentary-ukraines-neo-nazi-problem-idUSKBN1GV2TY

Yeah this is something that's massively exaggerated by Russia but then totally ignored by Western media for fear of giving any legitimacy to what the Kremlin is saying

i am aware of this already but surely you can see how its a leap to actually buy into the idea that putin is trying to conduct a holy cleanse of neo nazism from ukraine (not saying that you are). i mean this article from a few years ago itself says "To be clear, the Kremlin’s claims that Ukraine is a hornets’ nest of fascists are false". and where does the article say "in ukraine leadership"? which leaders and people in the government positions?

you gotta stop acting like everyone else is totally uninformed. i don't think thats your intent but parts of the tone kinda feel like it and also seem to be arguing against a few points that no one made here

You could argue this is just empty moralism that obfuscates the mechanisms that put this into motion. It’s almost a useless way of evaluating anything that’s actually happening when you’re discussing individual choices. It’s like putting 100% of the blame on Bush as the bloodthirsty brains behind Iraq and Afghanistan when it’s the entire neocon establishment and military industrial complex before and after him that had been pressuring leaders into making those decisions and those wars have even less precedent to contextualize them. Putin has been attempting peace talks regarding the Ukraine for a long time and the U.S. shuts them down. Again the war is wrong, he shouldn’t be doing this. It’s horrible, but pretending like it’s out of the blue and couldn’t have been prevented is absurd.

I think it's pretty generous to describe Putin's demands on Ukraine over recent years as "peace talks"

Listen again I need to be clear, Putin is an imperialist piece of s*** and his actions are unacceptable but anyone who’s anti war already knows this. It’s difficult to try to discuss this without feeding into fake information coming from both Russia and the U.S. Still it’s obvious stuff like Snake Island and the Ghost of Kyiv is total propaganda.

yeah my brother is totally falling for the propaganda stuff, he sent me a video of some "badass ukrainian soldier" type s*** a few hours ago and was telling me about the ghost of kyiv bs

sure, doesn't change the fascist undertones of Putin's speech.

It’s not playing devils advocate. It’s basic ass foreign policy a***ysis that every anti war organization is echoing. Did you even watch the Chomsky video I sent you that further contextualizes things.

Snowblind is so good top 3 Sabbath track for me. Under the Sun has a dope heavy riff too. “Every day just comes and goes life is one long overdose”

Out of all the famous albums made on mountains of coke, that one’s probably the mount everest

In other news I really like the new Beach House album. It’s long but really great. It’s 80’s influenced but not in a played out synthwave way. More like a timeless quality kinda something like Don’t Dream It’s Over in feel. Not necessarily in style or texture but general atmosphere and mood.

  • Gonna be impossible to not show my Eno bias on the 70s list

still not quite sure how i feel about the 4-part release thing, its just kind of weird to do

I don’t get how you can sense a tone in anything I’m saying. I’m just relaying information. It’s incredibly frustrating how for years on here anytime I share my take on something it’s always brushed off as some edgy attempt to play devils advocate when all I’m simply doing is trying to understand the full extent of an issue divorced of personal emotions and values before I comment on it.

I wish I did but damn it just seems like their sound is getting really samey for me. Will give it another shot because it’s not like they’re supposed to be the most original band on the planet but that was my first impression.

Yeah I don’t think that structure was necessary but I almost didn’t notice it when listening. It does sort of feel like there’s intros and closing tracks for each section of it but if anything it feels more like acts rather than clear divides.

A lot of their stuff feels very 2010’s indie to me with it’s chill soundscapes and vocal inflections but this actually sounded closer to their influences. More 80’s/90’s Twin Peaksy soundtrack type material. On a surface level I think it just has some of their best melodies.

i mean i was mainly just talking about like 3-4 phrases that you used, one of which i think you edited after the fact to reflect more of the tone you intended. and the part where you respond to me with a quick response acting like i had never heard of the neo nazi situation and linking an article that didnt even support what you said

i really don't think there's much disagreement here at all and i can understand how you get frustrated but this is the way its always going to happen since we are just casual discussers itt and not super serious responses. always just gotta be ready for someone to come up with the "ahh fidelio devils advocate again eh" comment lol

People are unironically cheering on tanks with rainbow flags now which used to unanimously be something the hard left and right mocked. It’s just a weird time.

maybe they are just trying to emphasize it as more of a double album than just an 80 minute long ass slab of music since we are in the digital edge. emphasizing as 4 "chapters". i can kinda see if they dropped an 80 minute album with thier style some people might perceive it differently

gonna keep the 4 chapter part in mind as i listen to the whole thing

Lemme give it another listen but that’s how I felt with their last album...their backlog is still amazing if it doesn’t hit

I think it’s a nice cruising around at night album if you got a good sound system compared to some of their other stuff which is more so great zoning out to in bed.
