It's retrospectively almost impossible to appreciate how wild it would be to see this much tiddy and beav in the cinema in '73 f***in Alejandro lmao

My favorite avant garde stuff I’ve noticed is funny too whether it’s music or film. There’s a nice sense of levity underneath all the dense symbolism and what not in Alejandro’s work.

Yeah it was a lot more fun than I remember El Topo being

Like I said reminded me of Tati and Chaplin of all people a good bit

There is no reason why Transmission and LWTUA shouldn’t have been on Unknown Pleasures

It’s top 10 ‘90s crime dramas for sure. Penn gets on my nerves but De Palma always gets the best out of him

Yea he’s goofy in it but Pacino is brilliant and it’s just a really poignant, hard hitting film.

    Direction is top tier tho
Hope Joel does more surrealist stuff going forward

Tbh I was hoping the Coens started to move in a different direction. I love most of their films but after that Hail Caesar it just turned me off to the recent stuff. I have like no interest in Buster Scruggs either haha. Felt like they needed a new approach or something.

Scruggs was really just 5 short films packaged together but I agree about that new direction

greatest 5 year period for studio comedies? I’m thinking it’s between:
    1938-1942
    1982-1986
    2004-2008

‘90s is my third favorite decade for comedy, but like fidelio said the decade was kinda streaky with quality. also, I feel like a decent amount of the great ‘90s comedies were indies, moreso than the ‘80s and ‘00s
