Oh I know his musical taste intimately and 90% of the time we agree but the odd time I completely am oblivious to why he would like something and vice versa
i mean ive come to realize recently that maybe 5%+ of that might be due to different emphasis on lyrics
I rarely listen to that version of LARS to be honest that is not why we listen to it
ever listen to jimi's takes on LARS. pretty solid
You stan Hendrix more than Beefheart right?
yeah
I’m guessing he’s the black one?
carl weathers would never listen to bon jovi
The thing I like most about the songs you and I posted is how it’s rock but you could still groove to it
the next two albums feel too stationary and reflective
The chorus 3 mins in on the song you posted
sounds like Peter Gabriel
definitely more engaging. the songwriting is arguably Hollis' best too but the last two have such unique instrumentation that really hits when you're in the mood
ima watch
de bluebirds fly over my shoulder
gonna watch dem pass byyyyy
mabee wen im ollllder
wattcha think ima see
if I could walk awaayyyyyyyy from
meeeeeeeeee
You watched the doc already?

You think I'm getting super technical about the lyrics but it's 50% just the feeling conveyed through the vocal performance and I find the human voice be able to tap into my emotions way deeper than any instrument. Its like lyrics are just another dimension of the vocal performance. Cowgirl is my all-time favorite because of that devastating melody first and foremost and then the crushing guitar interplay conveying Neil's epic frustration and then the glorious crazy horse harmonies and then probably the lyrical content fourth tbh
pretty sure it's the same thing for a lot of my favorites. Definitely not trying to present myself as some a***ytical poetry a***yzer it's like the opposite of what I am.
because those are 2 of the purest and truest artistic spirits of the popular music era. i dont feel the same inspiration with gybe
i think it's one of those things you either love or hate

nah i definitely dont think youre getting super technical or a***ytical about them, its more that a lot of those things just wash over me completely and it might as well be in a different language. like the idea of saying its your 4th favorite thing about cowgirl in the sand is still kinda nuts to me
but neil is one of the examples where he has songs where the lyrics are among my favorite parts like a lot of Rust Never Sleeps

Maybe. I’m trying to watch the new South Park special tonight.
That one’s a cool album for sure.I just like the moodier atmospheric stuff they did earlier. It simultaneously sounded ancient and futuristic. The haunting mood of something like Epitaph hasn’t really been recaptured by anything else.
Tool came really close to matching Epitaph but it was still far away
I definitely posted tons of early rock and roll at you and the best songs thread that I assumed you knew but you didn't and generally just wanted to hear more doo wop
Doo Wop goat

that version of LARS is still fantastic though, but it's more of a statement than anything
