2nd to last track on Meadowlands by The Wrens the saddest s*** oat tbh.

new album from one of the Wrens dudes (Kevin Whelan) is coming this week under the name Aeon Station

and im excited because after a while I realized the songs he sang are all my favorites because I like his voice way more. Hopeless, Happy, and Boy's You Won't

Yeah it would've been interesting to see him work with something super different.

One that comes close is Undercurrent (1946) which is a thriller with a stacked cast and it stands out in his filmog as something unexpected IIRC

No just stating some facts I didn't realize until this week. The early stuff is pretty spotty and I definitely already culled the gems.

Also I didn't realize that Roky Erickson wasn't the only genius in the Elevators. He actually was pretty late to the party and only contributed one song to the first album (ok yeah it was You're Gonna Miss Me but still) Tommy Hall was the real psych lord who wrote all those crazy words and got all those otherworldly songs out of the jug which I still can't wrap my head around at all. I've been trying to find videos of people playing a jug and I just do not understand how he did it.

i didnt know tommy hall wrote lyrics

but yeah, absolute f***ing legend. and one of the most unique roles in a band in rock history.

just found this info on the jug sound

" It is my understanding that Tommy was producing those alien sounds mostly with his voice. It's a bit of a distinction, in my mind, and gives Tommy more credit for the sound. It's totally bizarre, and not simply a "jug" sound.

There are some raw live mixes, like the La Maison Club recordings, that have Tommy higher in the mix. It's pretty wild to focus on what he's doing. Holding an instrument allows him to blend-in as musician, I suppose. I can't find the quote, but I have read statements from band members saying he could have held a cardboard box and basically made the same sounds. It was mostly a prop. There are also some live photos of him holding a microphone alone, sans jug."

imagine just standing up there on stage with your band as you just go "tukatukatukatukatukatuka" into a jug at various pitches. man probably had some crazy breath control
