i always liked the buildup but something about the result always left a little to be desired for me. still like a lot and maybe in my top half-ish songs from Aftermath, just not absolute pinnacle stones like the handful of '66 highlights

also i had absolutely no idea what those lyrics were until you just quoted them lol i think i somehow understand sung lyrics way less than most people. cant remember what song it was but I was listening to one I loved the other day and heard dozens of times and suddenly realized I could barely even pick out a string of words by ear

Well with the stones it usually matters less than anybody and it's Jagger's godly phonetic expression you're there for. Was just illustrating the moment that gets to me and the lyrics is only like a third of the reason why.

yeah its solidly played but they werent very distinct yet and Steven Tyler didnt find his real singing style on any song besides Dream On. one of the clearest examples of the musical sort of "divine intervention" that someone as cretinous as him somehow wrote Dream On when he was a teenager (and the lyrics at age 14)

Uncut does these History Of Rock issues for each year and I've already had the one for 1966 for five years but it's so packed with archival interviews from a bunch of different publications and s*** they have one for each year by the look of it and I'm about to grab the rest of the 60s
