Ngl now that I think about it, if s*** like The Go-Gos and Blondie is considered “new wave” then I could see how Elvis is too. I don’t agree at all but I at least understand.

So much is New Wave to me. It’s a vibe more than anything. Got a huge playlist called NewWave+ with just a ton of stuff from the late 70’s to the early 90’s from Blondie to Talking Heads to Depeche Mode to the Cars to the Cure and even some U2 and Smiths. It’s just a time and a vibe.

I think the lead from XTC said something like “New Wave was just a term music journalists came up with to make pop music seem more sophisticated. They were calling everything from Joy Division to Wham New Wave. We were just a pop band and that was fine.”
