yeah maybe i need to adjust my listening approach because right now i can get to the 20th listen of an album and still have no idea what the lyrics are. i dont just naturally grasp them as I listen and i'm definitely not the type to just start naturally singing along. and even with all my listens to Dylan's main 3 60s albums and having read the lyrics I still don't think I have a good grasp on them or truly appreciate them

this s*** is kinda seeming like some homework for a literature class ngl

Did you grow up listening to rap or country? I feel like that would make it easier to follow his stream-of-consciousness flow and to not take his surrealism and irony so seriously

“I’ve never really gotten into him. His voice is too nasal. And it’s like literature music. Quite boring three-chord structures serve as a bed for words. I’m too much of a music lover for that to happen.”

    was Bjork right about him???

lmao who is she talking about?

    bob dylan?

Well I often feel like the biggest dillitente itt so if I can get it so can you

Reading about history and s*** nonstop kinda let's my brain reflexively paint whatever picture he's trying to paint Murder Most Foul and Key West off his latest are staggering when you lay back at just let the imagery wash over you helps if get the myriad references tho. Tbh I do better with these than I do with whatever complex web he was trying to weave on Desolation Row something spooky about a cultural zeitgeist schism and picking sides or something :ohno: checking rap genius for the hyperdense mid 60s stuff is always a wild ride.

yeah i feel you, just kinda hard to let the imagery wash over me when i just space out completely on the lyrics if i'm not making a conscious effort to pay attention to them

i always mishear certain lyrics too so i kinda need to read along tbh

Darkness at the break of noon

    Shadows even the silver spoon

The handmade blade, the child's balloon

Eclipses both the sun and moon

To understand you know too soon

There is no sense in trying

    Cmon you cant understand that

id probably take dylan painting pictures with words over any musician trying to do the same thing with any instrument

exception would be Neil doing something like Cowgirl cause his words are nearly as good as Bob's and his guitar is as expressive as anyones as well

Which is the point of poetry. I think most people get too wrapped up in words meaning something more than them simply evoking images in your mind. Mr. tambourine Man for example.
