He needs to let another person edit his films their own way while he’s doing his own thing.

Im not the biggest Malick fan but I always felt his 70's films had heart his later films lacked. A simple shot where you can feel the warmth is more impressive than any spinning camera doohickey

Caviezel was perfect for that role, understated performance

Yeah, Tree of Life never impressed me like it impressed a lot of other folks and Knight of Cups literally felt like self-parody to me. Those ‘70s movies to me had a grounded self-awareness to them that his later films completely go off the pretentious deep end with.

@RASIE not going to like this
agreed to an extent though. Tree of Life is great, but everything since has been self indulgent and basically capitalized on that "newer" form of directing he developed for that film.

Something like this feels more biblical than anything his later films try to reach.

I’m with Rasie. Knight of Cups is great.
He rocks but no
Malick top 5 in America but too many Asian folks got his number

Bale is great, need to rewatch. couldn't vibe with Song to Song and haven't seen anything since that

Think there was just the WWII movie since that
PTA keeps getting better though
I’m not putting PTA against Malick, and Paul’s my boy and I like him way more
