70's Waits has such a distinct vibe, its has a slow warmth to it.. you could basically taste the cigarette smoke and whiskey. Your just listening to a simple mon doing his late night side gig.
Of course its not his creative peak but even when its simple Waits is special.
i hated 70s tom waits

One of the coolest album cover/title combos ever

Makes all their other album covers look trash.

Also the only Beach Boys album that has songs that don't sound like the Beach Boys if you know what I mean

Sunflower and Holland (especially when that other dude sings) got a couple of those too
tbh after watching this I find the entire debate about Days of Heaven being basic Malick kinda pointless (I know I'm attacking a strawman here but idc). There are plenty of Malick tropes you can find in his later work (especially his more recent films, which I also love) in pretty much every frame while being placed in a far more continuous setting so that the metaphors can fully develop themselves without becoming too intellectual like it happens in his recent even more stream-of-consciousness-style (there are always moments where it becomes more of a detached puzzle of where to fit one frame into the broader narrative rather than a spiritual experience.).
In Days of Heaven you can literally just get lost into the images and the let film flow by with an almost psychedelic pace. At least that's how I feel.

“Basic Malick” is an oxymoron
