It doesn't really strive for the heart imo. It's more an exaggerated take on the "nobody gets into a very sticky situation" trope Hitch often used but actually put forward as the major theme. The film centers around the emancipation of getting control over one's own destiny. There are several estabslishing shots that are way too far from the action which imply a grander almost metaphysical context to the story. The moment Grant's character gains that control is imo especially rewarding.
Aside from that it's just one great action scene after the other putting Grant's character deeper into the rabbit hole but still keeping it very humorous.
Vertigo on the other hand imo loses a bit due to the abrupt ending, which is played as a shock and not a tragedy.
However, both flip-flop with each rewatch when it comes to my Hitch favs.
Your metaphysical context part reminds me of Mizoguchis big profound pans

I’m all for trading him if they’re able to get decent value, but if the only offers are Simmons for two mediocre T’Wolves role players or something then he can stay here and either play or get fined out the ass.

Heard that Keane song Somewhere Only We Know for the first time in like 15 years. Forgot how pretty of a song that was. They used to play it a lot back in the day that it got kind of annoying, but randomly after all this time it’s really nice.

Cant believe how much i've gotten into "watching" TTS videos on youtube of paranormal/horror 4chan stories or posts from other sites over the past year or so
The dude behind SomewhereInnaWoods.com (YT channel called Chass) has been an absolute goldmine of entertaining s***. Can't even remember how i found it, was probably just in my recommended randomly one time.
Really great stuff, some being genuinely spooky in an entertaining or interesting way. There's also been some that have really surprised me in regards to how talented anonymous posters on forums can sometimes be with storytelling and writing. Even some of the "anthology/compilation" structured videos sometimes feature posts that are written in a way that come across as true because of how well-researched or knowledgeable (or give the illusion of those things) the writer seems to be about particular subjects — despite often being fantastical scenarios that are otherwise told very casually. And as someone who has had some weird/hard to explain experiences in my life, there are more than a few stories that part of me enjoys believing actually might be true.
I'd love to see someone publish collections of this sort of stuff in print.
I think these two were the first ones i found, which made me subscribe the their channel:
