i dont think its his fans so much as just how cutesy and contrived every single aspect of his flms are down to the most infinitesimal minutia. i still love them all.

The subject matter is rarely cutesy and contrived. What I like about him is the juxtaposition between the innocent toy box like veneer of his work and the actual content of what’s happening. A lot of his films are about forbidden love, familial trauma, and there’s plenty of scenes of violence, death, and like I mentioned earlier the attempted suicide in Tenenbaums being a standout darker moment. He’s sort of playing around with what appears to be an extension of some of Peter Greenaway’s visual ideas.

Moonrise 3rd favorite, but I’m more of a Life Aquatic and Darjeeling Limited kinda guy.

Honestly his animated stuff is closer to the bottom for me. They’re still really good for what they are but what I like about his work comes out more in live action.

Been revisiting Wes Anderson’s filmography. I think his twee film school fans have sort of soured his reputation in online circles over the years but I’m having a blast going through all of his stuff again. Hyped for his new film next month.

    Life Aquatic is the s***

I meant visually and his aesthetic is so distinct it almost overpowers the qualities your pointed out. Again not my complaint.

Hal Ashby was definitely on some proto Wes with Harold & Maude and The Landlord as well

I had already started dabbling in 60s rock when I saw my first Wes (Tenenbaums) so that always added an extra level of appreciation for his films. Can't wait to see what nuggets he pulls up with every time.

    So much kinks

first 3 are all amazing. 5 got the most fun factor for the gameplay, good story too but it takes awhile to get the most out of it.
