besides the Dark Star i mentioned yesterday that song (2 songs together) and that performance of it (from the Europe 72 album) might be the 2nd place for their most definitive recording. imho

Live/Dead is a period I like more but the Europe 72 album was the best live album released back in the day partly because of the tracklist+length+good vocal overdubs. thats the one that really got me "on the bus" most but its also a triple album

Also Heaven Or Las Vegas skipped a few of their albums after Treasure cause the 90s thread gave me fomo

apparently he started doing heroin in the mid 70s. most of the peak was before that but theres still some peak years afterwards. but there's so many d**** involved it's impossible to try to pinpoint based on specific ones lol. they were all cokeheads too. i think the better later era stuff comes from periods where he was clean-ish though

Garcia might be the goat with the most unhealthy lifestyle, dude was looking 70 years old at 45 (partially due to early gray hair but still) and was visibly in absolute shambles up on stage at times. crazy amounts of d****, smoking, horrible diet, no exercise, even allegedly awful hygiene during the nadirs

they did a few meh covers for sure though, their Hey Jude cover with Pigpen singing is horrible
