The shortest contract we could sign was a 1-year lease
I wish apartment complexes with multiple building could segregate residents who have children from those who don't. We'd be halfway to utopian society by now if that was the case
And we didnt really have much time to be particular about finding a place — my husband's hospital company told him about his promotion on April 3rd, and that he'd start the new job on May 1st.
So we had less than 1 month to put over half our house in storage, sell a bunch of things we didnt need, get the house painted (or at least secure the date for it to be done), find a new place to live from over a 1000 miles away, drive 17 hours across the country, and move our stuff in. All while we were both still working Mon-Fri, 6:30-5:00.
And we still havent put our house on the market cause my father-in-law is finishing up repairing some outside damage.
If I had the like $12,000 required to break our lease early right now, i'd go to the bank and get 12K in crates of pennies, move them into our apartment's management office, and fart as i leave
Fuuuuuuck that's rough. I was fortunate to be on month-to-month wehn dealing with annoying upstairs neighbors. Kids are the f***ing worst and I wouldn't be hesitant to drop kick a screaming child if given the opportunity

yeah now that im an adult i kinda hate children
the sound of children playing loudly outside infuriates me tbh
Jesus i am so over how entitled the people who live above us act. These mfs have enough money to care for two small children, pay $3500 (+ utilities) per month in rent, and drive two cars — one of which is a f***ing white Bentley Flying Spur that's easily $150,000 used.
But they have absolutely no consideration for anyone else and let both their small children stomp, jump, run, scream, and ride trikes all around the hardwood floors — from 8:30 AM to midnight, every single day, all day long. Living under them in our apartment is like living in a bunker under a warzone training ground. The parents never intervene or even seem to be in the same room as the kids pretty much all day. The mom also constantly has screaming fights with who I assume is her boyfriend late at night.
They dont have a daycare or nanny for them. They dont take them outside even tho the weather is fine. If they leave it's for an hour at most, and the second the walk through their door it's like an army of those little girls from the Finding Nemo dentist office has invaded the building.
And even though they've been asked and told a dozen times to control their children's rowdiness and noise, nothing has changed over the past few months.
We can't even get home from work and watch TV cause the noise drowns out the speakers. Cant have friends over for dinner cause its incredibly awkward and headache-inducing. Can't enjoy a weekend or have a relaxing day/night at home ever.
I've dreamt about taking a FAT s*** right outside their door, and then going to the office and b****slapping the assistant managers who have made us consider legal action because they're too lazy/unconcerned to do anything about it.
Wow.. parents of today and kids of privilege are so f***ing disgusting haha. Dont get me wrong I've dealt with s***ty neighbors too but mostly from ignorance on their behalf. Like you need to explain to them why having a blaring TV on at 3:00 am could be annoying or to make sure the pizza boxes are empty so roaches don't infest the building. Stupid s*** like that.
But your situation broski smh, people who clearly think the world revolves around them and you have to deal with it. Remember that convo we had back in the day about disciplining kids, giving them a whooping just to keep them in check.. Perfect example right here haha just wait to the kids get older and start running all over the parents !

Bro the other night the mom's boyfriend came over at like 11PM and I was in bed. Their apartment layou is identical to ours, so they're in the bedroom above me, and they start yelling at each other. And while they're fighting, the kids come in the bedroom and literally just start doing laps around the room and jumping off the bed onto floor making huge crashes that shake the lampshades on our nightstands.
All the while, the adults are still arguing like nothing is happening. Completely unphased by it being almost midnight and their 5 and 3 year olds are reenacting a Scooby Doo chase sequence right next to them.
After it went one for 4-5 solid mins, I yelled at the top of my lungs "SHUT THOSE F***ING KIDS UP", and then it went silent long enough for me to fall asleep. The next morning my husband (who was watching TV in the living room during the noise) said "Please warn me before you scream next time, I almost had a heart attack because it was so loud and out of nowhere"

maybe you didn't get whopped enough
tbh you don't seem the type to blatantly disobey or disrespect your parents. I could be wrong but I wouldn't picture you running around a restaurant or knocking s*** over and your folks letting it happen.
You work a regular job, stable relationship, have your own home that you take pride in..
sounds alright to me

record everything you hear and confront the parents and get that on tape, you've gotta be on the offensive here bro

Oh there is. Today was actually the final straw. This has been going on since the week we moved in 3 months ago and it's affected both us and our dogs in terms of stress pretty much every day.
But today the kids were so obnoxiously loud, literally nonstop from 9AM to 3PM, that my larger dog was having a shaking/panting fit from anxiety for several hours straight (which normally only happens during really awful thunderstorms).
Again the staff here did nothing about it, and just continue condescending us even though we've done everything they've asked us to do in order to substantiate our claims. And it turns out that this state has several laws that protect tenants (us) from landlords violating our right to comfort. So we've told them that we are filing a nuisance claim against them in court this next week, which we would win easily with all our evidence, and likely be awarded the right to negotiate a decrease in rent until the end of our lease.
Not only that, but thank god for Massachusetts normalizing the idea of apartment complexes charging "pet rent" instead of a pet deposit like normal states — because that dumbass moneymaking scheme is worded in our lease in such a way that it entitled our dogs to all the contractual protections me and my husband have (rights to comfort, physical/mental health, privacy, etc...) Because the apartment complex has considered our pets as tenants because they're charged rent.
And not doing anything at all about my normally happy and outgoing dog passing out at noon from hours stress exhaustion (that i sent them a video of) is, legally speaking, the equivalent of ignoring another resident attacking us.
We are pretty positive that things will quickly take a turn for the better within the next week.
