rewatched Ivans Childhood this morning and its still magical
What's a good Rusky movie to start with? I feel like Ivan's Childhood is something I wanna save til the end.
Might rewatch Stalker, maybe I'll appreciate it more now. Kinda want something more colorful and beautiful though. Yeah I know that's weird, coming from me.

Nah Ivan's Childhood is basically Tarks student film and was the film that got me back into Russian films after checking out Solaris years earlier which I hated and still don't love. It's definitely his most accessible.
Really good starting point, you will think Yung Ivan is a badass :datass:
If you want color and beauty check out Zerkalo but I think you should do Ivan and Rublev first

I've spent time in London and Amsterdam but never went farther than that. I've studied their art though and people underestimate their side of the world. I get why Russians in particular are so f***ing grim. It's a hard place.
Yeah one of Tarks recurring themes is the frustration of loving mother Russia but finding it impossible to live or work there

I remember us bonding over Nick Cave, Tom Waits, etc but it was in some random poster's "Fav Album List" like we starting talking about our favorite joints instead of this dude's
I also remember being really baffled when you said My War wasn't an influential album or something like that.. S*** took me like 2 years to get over

I read a biography on the Romanov family and it confirmed in my mind Russia as the WOAT place to live. It was just nonstop murder and torture for like three centuries
