wonderful performance by Chaplin.
That, Limelight, City Lights, and King in NY are my cemented top 4 of his and they're all so damn excellent. Hes too good on screen and behind the camera

And still haven't seen King of NY

You want to do a Beatsense late on Turkey Day? Or the day after?
Perhaps

Couldn’t get into Modern Times as much

Probably been on shrooms every time I've seen it so it remains his zenith for me

What I've always found incredible is that he doesn't really do that much with the camera. In fact, it's often rather still or just doing the most necessary movement. However, the scenes are filled with so many interesting things. It was especially weird for me watching his films and Welles films almost back to back since they couldn't be more opposed stylistically. I'd love to see what a Welles-directed Verdoux would have looked like. Then again, it would have probably been cut and lost 40 minutes of film material.
as for his filmography I'd rank him (having rewatched Limelight, Modern Times and Great Dictator recently):
1. Limelight
2. Modern Times
3. Gold Rush
4. Monsieur Verdoux
5. City Lights
6. The Great Dictator
7. The Circus
but they're all good, great or masterpiece tier.
don't know about shorts. I watched a bunch on television many years ago but I have no clue which.
