if we are calling little richard and elvis proto punk then i feel like the term basically has lost all meaning. just cuz its rebellious, energetic pure rock and roll doesnt mean it should be labeled proto punk

They had the first punk spirit but I wouldn't quite call it protopunk. Although The Clash and Pistols definitely had a rockabilly influence.
