    if we are calling little richard and elvis proto punk then i feel like the term basically has lost all meaning. just cuz its rebellious, energetic pure rock and roll doesnt mean it should be labeled proto punk

    i see what your point is but i just think that would result in acting like basically all pure rock and roll back then is proto punk

    definitely not my favorite genre term anyway

    i feel like some people dilute the term to a point where basically every rock artist pre 75 thats not prog or blues is proto punk even then someone was calling 21st Century Schizoid man proto punk the other day cant remember who

    They had the first punk spirit but I wouldn't quite call it protopunk. Although The Clash and Pistols definitely had a rockabilly influence.

    Tbh the only “true” rock came out in the ‘50s
