hmm. I'm thinking of ending things is extremely cryptic. There is def a toxic relationship being presented as such yet I feel that this is only a surface-level reading. Out of the blue I'd say one of Kaufman's strongest works as a director or scriptwriter but this I have to let it sink in.

Why do some people hate it that much tho? Does it rip off something. Surrealism ain't far from a new thing so I'd understand that complaint but I think it was rather imaginative with horror echoes of The Tenant and Rosemary's Baby. It's def not an loser movie. Actually quite the opposite.

I think the "loser" thing about it is just a meme.

I couldnt stand it because it was incredibly boring. Like intolerably boring. Those car conversation scenes had me so apathetic that my stomach started to hurt. I legitimately started getting mad at how boring the dialogue and edit was to me lol.

But then even scenes outside the car were boring. It really felt like i watching something where every beat was so incredibly inconsequential that i felt nauseous at the idea of ever rewatching it in the future.

And you know my tastes fam. I love Tarr, Out 1, Akerman, Wiseman, etc... But this film felt like a 2 hour long sigh unfortunately.

The only thing i found interesting was the certain moments in the night driving scenes where the blacks get so deep and engulf the image where you can just barely make out the character's faces in hues of dark blue. Which reminded me of films i adore like Sombre

edit: holy s*** Sombre is on youtube. Wattba

Of course but that usually doesn’t make me write off a guys entire filmography. A lot of great artists are narcissistic.

People are just stupid, especially on here. Remember the quote from the middle of the movie about how most peoples thoughts are just echoes of what other people say? That’s very rampant here

I didn't really see the "loser" aspect either

Typical yeezy distorting my perception of a film before I even see it

    When did you see it?

Kaufman's style is very different though. He seemingly underwrites scenes which then suddenly move on to the next point after they made the point he wanted to make. That creates uncertainties in the narrative and imo increases tension. He does it with a steady rhythm though, which makes it rather easy for him to organically incorporate surreal moments and imagery.

He's far from a slow cinema guy afaic. His method, especially here, closer to Polanski's horror films (The Tenant). He just does it more with very dialogue-heavy scenes.

Oh yeah its def not slow cinema, i just made the comparison to those other films because its common for people describe them as "long stretches of time where nothing really happens", but thats exactly how felt watching those damn car sequences They really felt like they went on for f***ing ever and i could not stand to hear them talk any more lol. It put me in a such an exaggerated bad mood
