I don't see what's clever about these, it's a pretty easy to understand the bar

Depends on your definition of clever. They aren’t obviously Aesop Rock entendres or Black Thought but it’s just a fun little “jab bar” as I like to call them.

For example, Eminem off “Murder, Murder,” has a bar, “a bunch of other felonies from A to Z like spelling bees” is a fun “jab bar.” It’s not about the double/triple meanings but it’s a fun line in a verse to pick out and shows a basic understanding of wordplay.

And at least for Uzi, “Ozempic” hasn’t been used as far as I know in a verse from him (plus, I see feminine as part of the Ozempic/trenches rhyme scheme, so it’s an internal rhyme in my book)

I feel like these kind of bars are the most common to hear with much consistency in rap, so it's like status quo in terms of expectation imo

So I don't really call it clever, like we all could come up with these ourselves if we were bored. Clever as an adjective to me in this context really has to have me like

Fair enough I understand tho. I appreciate the common set up of these bars especially since if the delivery is rapid enough where it’s easy to gloss over if you’re not really paying attention to the lyrics.

These types of bars can end up corny if the delivery is drawn out (see modern Eminem) to let the listener be like “Aye? You see what I did there?” But the basic punchline set up is a lot of fun to me as a listener. Maybe not “clever” like a Lupe Fiasco bar, but at least a fun bar (especially given Uzi’s penchant for punching in/scatting lines)

Yeah I feel that. I think my favorites for that when it's unexpected or takes a second to get. Something that's subtle you might gloss over it without even picking up on the line after numerous listens, but it catches your ear and you piece it together.

Like Sahbabii or Robb Banks had one that I never caught after mad long. Granted I wasn't heavily paying attention to the lyricism. Robb for example said "Bitch you know you can't pay me in cheeks, I got enough to fill the vault. S***is not currency baby, thug ain't make pilot talk."

I never pieced together the S***as Thugger and the double entendre there, I was just like random pilot talk mention. But when that s*** clicked I was like

Jumped in the uber, he should’ve got a Lyft!
