We are so blessed to be getting music from a legend like Erykah Badu at 55. It’s amazing to me how she can effectively be retired for so many years then lock in and make a project to this standard that stands up to her previous catalog. A true artist.
Shouts to them actually following through too cause there’s a point I thought they was just bullshittin and the s*** would never see the light of day
She actually apologized and thanked the fans for holding them down during the long wait in the new Ebro interview too, which she definitely didn’t have to do so I appreciate it
Now Mos Def on the other hand, I’d guarantee he ain’t ever dropping the album he has with Alc and prolly doesn’t give a s*** that the fans want it
Speaking of the Ebro interview there were some neat tidbits in there
-Erykah and DRAM have enough joints together in the tuck for a short project
-To The Moon and They Ain’t You are Alc’s two favourites on the album
-To The Moon beat was originally meant for Jay Electronica, who was holding onto it for 3 years. Alc said Jay will do that, and then get angry if the producer wants to give the beat to someone else. He said Jay only conceded because it was going to Erykah instead
-The night they recorded No ID was crazy, Gunn came through and there were strippers and single people everywhere in her studio. There’s a bunch of wild photos from that night that they might use as inserts for another vinyl pressing
-The melody for Love Me Not’s chorus was conceived by Erykah and Jay Elec’s daughter Mars
-DRAM wrote and recorded his part for Valentine as a voice note while Erykah was playing the beat on the tour bus, before even knowing he’d be asked to feature on the album

magical
ill give you a couple of joints off of the great escape, but for the most part alc just gives some of his most boring s*** to larry.
also voir dire still has the best vince staples feature this decade, so there’s that

i raise u dis
Don't understand the Voir Dire hate. I love that album. Alc laced Earl in my opinion: Geb, Vin Skully, Mancala, The Caliphate, Sirius Black. All heatrocks!

elephant man is ridiculous

has someone made a creole princessless version of play a part yet
her abc ass rhymes & sterile, suburban sounding lackadaisical delivery take me out of it
smh. Talk about being a funk monk - wading in the sludge of your funk swamp in all tranquility, only to be poached & forcibly transported to the food court of some middle amerika mall against your will. Liv.e deserved to get some Jade Fox bars off on that joint in her place.
If this don’t win a Grammy man idk
It wont.

Anything remotely soul or r&b gets overlooked in the main categories, almost never wins aoty or soty or roty
