11:55 - responds to somebody asking when "Eric x Glaive" is coming, says that it's coming this Summer and that they're almost finished w/ it
14:08 - says that his album comes out on his birthday, which is on September 7th
songs like Strangers and Back n Forth are 100% confirmed for the album in September, but older ones like Attention W**** and He a Mascot aren't because he thinks their ass and his vocals aren't good enough on them
What are your favourite ericdoa songs @tupacarti
how tf Eric get a mil and glaive got 300k
probably cause Eric already had an album out and we don't know how many projects he signed for, while Glaive only had loosies out and signed for 2 EPs
What are your favourite ericdoa songs @tupacarti
probably:
ivy, thanks4thewarning, witchcraft, ifhy, sheaskedwhatmylifeislike, Whatuworried4, Peroxide, on2u and Mirage
how tf Eric get a mil and glaive got 300k
I think cause glaive only signed for like 4 EPs
i'd get this sentiment if you were talking about other people from the scene since some of the music being made isn't necessarily "accessible," but Ericdoa in particular has been playing with sounds that sound like regular pop music like on Fantasize, the night we danced, puppeteer, and back n forth--except with better production. It's not like he's doing some outrageous Death Grips style, so I don't really see what you're saying
plus Hyperpop literally isn't even a genre, every artist lumped under it contradicts what a genre should be, especially when you have people like Blackwinterwells, Osquinn, Funeral, and Kurtains clumped under the title. Kurtains has been making Indie music, Funeral had an alt-rock song get on the hyperpop playlist, and Quinn and Wells can make any genre there is. Hell, people even consider Uzi hyperpop, and Carti's own producers (Outtatown + Starboy + Gab3) started a collective called Hyperpop.jp
There's not one particular "sound."
damn u really talking to urself itt
edit: man honestly that s*** is like sugar, it's popular cause kids can it up rn but it's really just a niche. well off suburban kids making speed up music is hardly a movement. not to mention so many of the people in this lane just straight rip lyrics from songs that were big when they were like 5
edit 2: not even tryna be a d*** cause obviously you enjoy this and no one here really matches ur enthusiasm for this but this lane of music is so terrible imo. it sets a really bad precedent of formulaic, repackaged music
(not even necessarily talking about eric here, just saying)

how is it formulaic though
literally take any artist from the scene like Dltzk, Wells, Eric, etc. each of their releases are different from the last (look at Wells last 6 or so singles). and what is "speed up" music? i'm assuming you mean pitched up vocals and nightcore type stuff, which again, is a false generalization of the scene (this is a scene of 50+ artists ffs, have you heard more than a few of them?)
And what does them being "well off suburban kids" matter when it comes to music? The artist in your avi grew up in a suburb
He also used a hook from an old Gucci mane song on Stop Breathing, and used to sound like Chief Keef, does that make him unoriginal and "formulaic"?
Repacked music is Internet Money; when you have songs like Frostbite, Hearse, Hangar, Southview, Homeswitcher, 52 blue mondays, holding back, no regrets, 2008, ifhy, Final Breath, By Your Side, Typo, Skytearer, Cursed, Evil, etc. emerging from this wave, how is it repetitive? The main appeal to all these artists is because they consistently try new sounds and evolve with each release
And with it being "just a niche", the success of Glaive and Eric thus far disprove that, and I'm willing to bet money that they'll be 10x bigger come the final hours of 2021 (the scene is the biggest wave rn right next to Michigan--and if I'm wrong, prove it instead of yelling out generalizations made off of less than a quarter of the scene)
It's ok if you don't like the music, plenty don't, but I don't understand any of your points at all

to me most of the artists from this scene that i've heard just seem really derivative of the ones pulling in the highest numbers, which isn't unusual in music but it's almost worse when a lot of this thrives off aesthetic.
i bring up the point of suburban kids mimicking bigger names because that s*** is corny no matter how you paint it. like from what i've seen it's a bunch of 'zoomers' who learned fl studio in quarantine while school was shut down last year.
people keep calling out my carti avi and tbh i don't even fw his music like that, i think wlr is his best project and it's the only one i can stand to listen all the way thru. i just like the pic i guess. there's nothing wrong with interpolating music i just feel like something like this for example is so f***ing lazy

and you're right it's not to the extent of literally scouring through old soundcloud songs and buying hooks and s*** to literally repackage like internet money does
again though i don't see this type of music having a staying point because it feels like it's hot on tiktok and that's it. you know it kinda reminds me of how people thought cuco and clairo were the s*** 2017-2018 and now everyone cringes looking back because bedroom pop is just that, s*** that doesn't translate well to bigger or live audiences

i think this has more staying power than bedroom pop though off the sheer fact of how many of them there are, and how more inventive and exciting it is, at least to me. anyway, we'll see what happens in 2-3 years and what perspective will turn out to be true, have a nice night
