The purpose was literally to troll lmao
Iirc he says on the album he's mad at critics for the controversy surrounding sslp so he made mmlp to say "fuck y'all"
Why yall in every Em thread discussing the same thing over and over again lol
Most people rap fans call it one of the best hh records oat since it's release. All this revisionist s*** only came after Revival. You don't like it, that's fine but why try and push your narrative in every thread
I've inspired the Kendricks
The Coles
The Big Seans
The Logics
The Hopsins
The Joyners
Mixed feelings on these lines fr

The narrative of that album is in the album itself - liking it or not doesn't matter here - the purpose was clear - mmlp was a response to the critics.
I'm pretty sure critics back then also pointed it out so this isn't even a new perspective lmao
On "remember me"
Remember me? I just don't give a f***
Remember me? Yeah, f*** you too
Remember me? I'm low down and I'm shifty
Remember me? I'm Shady
When I go out, I'mma go out shooting
I don't mean when I die, I mean when I go out to the club, stupid
I'm tryna clean up my f***in' image so I promised the f***in' critics
I wouldn't say f***in' for six minutes
On a song called literally "fuck you" (lyrics below)
Shut up, s***! You're causin' too much chaos
Just bend over and take it like a s***, okay, Ma?
"Oh, now he's raping his own mother
Abusing a w****, snorting coke
And we gave him the Rolling Stone cover?"
You're goddamn right, b****, and now it's too late
I'm triple platinum and tragedies happened in two states
I invented violence, you vile venomous volatile vicious
On" criminal"
A lot of people ask me
Stupid f***in' questions
A lot of people think that
What I say on record
Or what I talk about on a record
That I actually do in real life
Or that I believe in it
He's very obviously sticking it to his critics lol
Not to mention the whole song "the way I am" in which he talks about being misunderstood by the public etc
Edit : I suggest you relisten to the album tbh

Bro we all know that but the thing I don't get is why is this even being brought up again just to try and minimize the quality of his albums. Saying f*** you to the world/critics always been of one his subject matters but it's unreasonable to simply describe MMLP as just that.
It resonates to a lot of people precisely because of that angst Em was projecting into his music. Its sort of an outlet for him and the listener's frustrations. His passion and the versatility to write some f***ed up s*** and in the next song writing stuff in a way that's relatable is what draw people into this project.
I think he definitely overdone that responding to the critics s*** (most recently) but he also has dwell into many other different topics throughout his career in a introspective and mature way. More than what people who dislike his music give credit to
I think storytelling is his strongest asset and should focus on that tho. Especially now since he seems to have run out of things to write about
Yet Nas and Jay have moved forward and dropped the gay slurs and expanded their subject matter towards mentoring the youth. Being a nearly 50 year old still rapping about edgy s*** and trying to upset ppl isn't cute or endearing.
Eminem didn't had any gay slurs on MTBMB both parts. Also can't compare Em to Nas or jay anymore cause they ain't got fans asking to diss rappers, Em is the only rapper who still got fans from every age group he has to please.

I know teenagers who listen to Nas religiously bro lol

Or Revival, or Kamikaze. They haven't listened to Em since Rap God lol Em has been soft for a minute.
He didn't "grow up" in that s***
He started rapping there as a young adult lmao that movie isn't real lol
Also he sucked for the most part
!https://youtu.be/jNKLi1MwaaQSidenote : Where he first started rapping was with some white boys in a group where they had time to also record racist raps.
Proof encouraged him to participate in battles in school lunch time, I remember reading in 'The Way I Am' book.

I listen to every new project he puts out, he's still on that edgy s***

!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90pxxqHxRlcHe really watches his mouth now. I don't think Em can be cancelled, but they can hurt his sales if he says some wild s***.

And his uncle got him into rap

Danhust said "his mature stuff (mmlp & tes)..."
Goo replied with " mmlp isn't mature"
I replied to goo with " lmao it wasn't mature at all it was a f*** you to the critics"
You need to read the whole convo instead of making assumptions like that hopped in here randomly to bash* mmlp
*Btw I don't view mentioning what eminem tried to do with his own album as "bashing"
He didn't "grow up" in that s***

So what's up with Em making The Slim Shady EP before meeting Dre though

Donuthole hopped in that one bag today.
I've never heard of Eminem and proof knowing eachother in high-school but let's do the math 🤔:
Eminem at 17yo dropped out of high school after failing ninth grade 3x
Google says they met in 1992 when proof joined their lil rap group with chaos kid
In 1992 Marshall would have been 20 years old (birthyear being 1972)

But Em says his uncle got him into rap not Proof lol and even if he started rapping with other white teens, he ended up joining D12 (and Outsidaz kinda) and saving their life lol
Ya'll so ready to hate on Em and rewrite history lol. This thread is about this guy he signed and that mid song he put out on Shady, not about Em.
So what's up with Em making The Slim Shady EP before meeting Dre though
I think he met dre like around 25
He had time between 20 and 25 to record an ep and send it to people lol

Tell that to op of this thread who claimed proof was encouraging Eminem to rap during lunch breaks
lmaoo I'm sure he skipped lunch too but whatever
"DeShaun Holton was sitting on the wall of his mostly black school, Osborne High, when Eminem, then going by his given name Marshall Mathers, handed out a flyer for a talent show he was performing in. Soon, the pair were swapping raps, and bonded"

aight my bad on that
but yall always on his threads s***ting on his older music so i assumed that

S*** doesn't add up head ass
Doesn't negate the fact he was 20yo at the time
That's not "growing up" in s***
I think he met dre like around 25

I'm saying that the EP was dope and part of it even ended in the SSLP. Em was mad talented. Dre didn't sign him for no f***ing reason. He was signing a white dude, he knew it wasn't a good idea unless he had something special.
And he always said his uncle got him into rap
