    Shifting goal posts, G.

Look, at the end of the day, Eminem is a rap legend. He's had that title since before the start of the 2010s. It's just sad to watch him keep at it with the music releases because I feel like all it's done is hurt his legacy. He'd still be doing numbers with his catalog from the 90s/2000s if he never dropped any new music because his older music is that good. He's got nothing left to prove at this point but I can understand his love for the artform and not wanting to give it up. It just sucks that the result of that isn't great music or music I consider compelling.

You're even more stupid than I thought if you think you can predict a person's race from their taste in music.

And I already thought you were too stupid to cross roads unassisted.

“And I already thought you were too stupid to cross roads unassisted”

    Yeah you’re DEFINITELY white

My writing process is different now than it was back in the day. It used to be, give me whatever piece of paper is laying around and I'm going to write some ideas down. Sometimes I wish I could have that freedom back. At the beginning of my career, I had this whole canvas that I could paint on. "I haven't made a song about this, this, this. I can make a song about this." The more you paint on that canvas, all of the sudden, you've made a song about every single thing you can f***in' possibly think of. So, I start getting in my head. If I had a choice between being the best rapper or making the best albums, I'd rather be the best rapper. That's how I rap, to be the best rapper. Obviously, all of that is subjective, and everybody's got their favorite rappers, but in my head, I would rather do that than just make good songs

    Insightful

    explains a lot

His albums do well upon release but fall off the Billboard 200 after a few months. MTBMB lasted a bit longer before falling off only because he released a side B that served as a whole other album. That gave it a few months of longevity it wouldn't have had otherwise.

but the streams keep going up anyway

  • Needs to get back on the pills.

    Relapse underrated.

Despite what you might believe, numbers aren't everything lol. If Drake did massive numbers but no one ever discussed his music (past/present) or if the music he dropped had zero impact and was forgetten about months later, he'd be in big trouble because that meant the general public was over him.

Drake still has people discussing songs/albums from 10+ years ago. Every other day, it's a viral tweet about this Drake song or that Drake album. People still care because he's still making music they think is compelling and worth having conversations about.

Eminem has none of that. None. He drops his music, does his numbers, people call it wack and it's rinse and repeat and it's been that way for years now. At least he was still scoring hits from like 2010-2014. He can't say that now.

Never thought I’d agree with you on anything but here we are. Good points

Eminem is constantly in the limelight

Do you guys even remember his early career?

He had the nation by storm by Curtain Call

  • Sep 15, 2022

eminem is still very much popular and relevant

it’s only the online hip hop sphere of hipster blog writers who wanna be hood and twitter kids who will tell you otherwise cause the discords don’t talk about him

This entire discussion was regarding Eminem’s relevancy post-MMLP2.

No one is dumb enough to deny Em’s relevancy at his peak

I don’t even like CLB but there are still people discussing whether that album is good or bad to this day.

And after he dropped HN he had the whole hip hop world discussing house music and its’ roots in Black culture for months until Renaissance dropped and the conversation continued with that album.

    CULTURAL RELEVANCE =/= NUMBERS

Feel like Norah Jones and Backstreet Boys are the biggest examples of this. Multi-diamond albums that nobody really talks about.
