people are gonna be more willing to spend money on a physical good that has no (or less perceived) value that they can actually hold, use and consume than they are for a png on twitter.

The checkmark only held value because of it's exclusivity. Now that anyone can have it no one is gonna want it...not the same dopamine hit. The Starbucks now holds more value than the png just off of sheer value of experience (sugar + caffeine)

I mean the coffee gives you some caffeine and it tastes good. AFAIK the purpose of the check mark is to verify public figures/entities because people try and impersonate them.
